Starter Areas are copies of a small portion of the main world. Men and Hobbits begin their character life in the Starter Area Archet, while Dwarves and Elves begin in the Starter Area Thorin's Gate.

Starter Areas generally are designed to introduce new players to the game, and have quests specifically designed to demonstrate particular aspects of the game's functionality or the UI. Also, monsters are generally easier to kill and less aggressive in Starter Areas.

When a character advances sufficiently, the Starter Area is exited by completing an Instanced quest that allows the character to enter the main world.
