Description

The Trollshaws, featured in Echoes of Angmar, is a diverse region in eastern Eriador known for its lush landscapes and treacherous terrains. It's a land steeped in Middle-earth lore, once traveled by Bilbo Baggins and known for its stone trolls, an element inspired by Tolkien's 'The Hobbit'.

This forested region is characterized by rocky hills, flowing rivers, and significant landmarks like the Last Bridge, the Troll's Cave, and Rivendell, an Elven sanctuary. Offering numerous quests, challenges, and dynamic combat encounters, it immerses players in a richly layered gaming experience that epitomizes adventure and exploration in the world of Middle-earth.

History

The Trollshaws, featured in "The Lord of the Rings Online" (LOTRO) 2007 version, is a region with a rich backstory deeply rooted in the lore of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth.

Formerly part of the Elven realm of Rhudaur in the Second Age, Trollshaws fell into decline over time and became known for its menacing trolls. This change is immortalized in the tale of Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarves outsmarting three trolls, as described in 'The Hobbit.'

In the Third Age, the time setting of LOTRO, the Trollshaws is largely uninhabited, with the exception of Rivendell. Hidden deep within the forest, this Elven refuge founded by Lord Elrond stands as a sanctuary amidst the wilderness.

Thus, from an Elven realm to a troll-infested region and a refuge in Rivendell, the Trollshaws encapsulates the passage of time and changing fortunes in Middle-earth, adding depth and historical context to the gaming experience.

Settlements

Map of the Trollshaws

The wild woods of the Trollshaws are not known for their civilization. Other than scattered outposts and camps most are best served by pushing on to Rivendell rather than seeking shelter among the gorges and moors of the Trollshaws.

Past the end of the Great East Road and across the Fords of Bruinen lies the Elven refuge of Imladris. Home of Elrond Halfelven and many others, this beautiful sanctuary lies hidden in the Valley of Rivendell. The Last Homely House welcomes all travelers that make the treacherous journey to reach those hallowed halls. Lord Elrond can always be found in his Library ready and willing to offer wise counsel on any matter brought bfore him, or you may seek Bilbo Baggins in the Hall of Fire and hear his recounting of his own adventures.
